okay so i have a 97 del sol si d16y8 vtec. i got the transmission swapped auto to manual like 5 months ago. ever since the swap my vtec wasnt engaging because my mechanic said that in order for me to get a manual ecu to work for my car he needs to change the iacv. something about the pins not fitting right so he had to change that. so 2 days ago i brought it back to the shop and got it back today. he said everything is working fine no check engine light on. ok i was driving home, still no vtec and cel came up! couldnt go back to the shop cause theyre already closed. checked the code and its code 19. i searched online and came up with Code 19: Automatic transmission lockup control valve.
my car is not even auto! so wtf? im pissed off this is like my 3rd time going back and forth to this stupid mechanic. i live 35 miles away from this ****er. seriously i dont think this dumb**** will be able to fix this so im just gonna try to get some money back hopefully and take it somewhere else.

the ecu i have now is P2P-A31

cliffs:

My del sol has the d16y8 also and it has the p28 ecu. sounds to me like if the ecu is throwing and A/T lockup control valve code then its still a auto ecu. did the mechanic say he swapped out your ecu with a manual one?

yes i have the original service manual for my del sol.

yes he said the ecu is manual vtec.

he did mention that another option/the best option for the vtec to work is to change the intake manifold but that would cost me around $300. so i went with the other option that he suggested which is to change the iacv he said this should be temporary only until i change the intake mani. he guaranteed me that it would work 100%. i trusted this dude, had a lot of patience but now im starting to lose it.

sorry if im not making sense im drinking right now and kinda buzzed just to calm my self down. i was so excited thought i was gonna get my vtec back then this **** came up.

Sounds like incorrect ecu.... You sure the code you got was correct.... I dont think.you.need to change IM just sensors get a helms

Im talking about the service manual not the owners manual. Look under the cylinder head section. Should be section 6. There is a VTEC system trouble shooting flow chart that will help you diagnose the problem.

Get a p28 check all ur wires if they are connected right to the vtec and if not chip it for ur iacv to be clears off good luck man

manual ECU cant throw an automatic transmission ecu code.. so obviously the jackass did not put a manual ecu in, or he thought he knew how to convert it to manual and obviously didnt

This is why I asked if he has troubleshooted the problems using the helms service manual, something he has yet to confirm. Usually the only CEL's that will inhibit VTEC are VTEC related codes.

No, this is not correct, though not all codes will prevent VTEC. And I would not be surprised if code 19 does prevent VTEC.

i looked it up online and P2P-A31 is manual. unless this ****er is lying to me and changed the label. this dumb**** is kinda fishy though like when i got my car back after the conversion he said everything is perfect and when i called him telling him that my vtec doesnt work he told me it should work so i brought in the car and he test drove it and after that he told me that the problem with my car is that it has different pins and told me the option to change the iacv or the intake mani. if he knew there was a problem why didnt he tell me that before? and why bother test driving it and acting like he didnt know that vtec wasnt engaging if he knew what the problem was.
and when i got my car back yesterday and called him again cause vtec wasnt obviously working hes like "oh i didnt check the vtec all i know is that i put in the right ecu". dude why wouldnt he check vtec if he knew that was the main problem in the first place????? if any of you guys are from cali dont go to this shop its called Swap Shop Racing. im thinking this ****er ****ed something up in my car and hes too scared to admit it

The P2P-A31 is a manual ECU so it does not look for anything concerning an automatic transmission. I don't think it would be too difficult to put the guts from an auto ECU into a manual case if someone wanted to put something over on you.

If you crack it open and there's a resistor soldered into RP17 and RP18 then you have an auto ECU.

Always address the CEL first. Not the secondary symptom.
