'97 D16Y7 Adjustable Cam Gear Question
My buddy has a 1997 civic dx with the motor listed above. I was looking at the gear and the guy who owned the car before has the cam advanced by 4 degrees, however the bolts that hold the gear to the shaft are spaced exactly in the middle. Are there any gains to having the timing advanced? And why is it the adjusting bolts are in the middle of the area they have to be adjusted, yet its 4 degrees advanced? If it matters, the cam gear is a true time. Thanks.

Gains are negligible. I wouldn't waste the effort on an adjustable cam gear for a Y7.

Re: '97 D16Y7 Adjustable Cam Gear Question (******)
So gains aside, how many degrees (advancing or retarding) would I have to go before running the risk of a piston / valve collision? Keep in mind i'm not stupid enough to actually try this.
