97 coupe engine swap few questions
Hi I got a 97 coupe civic and recently my engine has given up, Its the D16y7 sohc.
I want the same one put in, problem is i went to my garage today and he said to me that he will have alot of trouble finding an engine for it.
He said something about it being an honda of america mgf inc engine or something like that and that if he were to get another d16y7 that wasnt the honda of america one, that he would have trouble putting it in.
Could ye tell me if anything he is saying is true, any info would be appreciated.

tell him to stop being such a downer and to hand in his mechanics liscense, you can put mostly any honda engine in your car... (i have a *JDM* b16a in my car - no problems)
idk why you want to put another of the same motor in there maybe moneys a factor, if thats the case, find any single cam, and itll go right in with a little bit of wiring tweaking and **** like that, but if you have the money, go dual cam

Also, I'd go with a Y8 this time man....it'll drop ~25 more power, and they don't cost a lot. Move up in the world, upgrade . Everything (mounts, linkage, wiring) is all the same 'cept the ECU (P2P I think) and you have to wire up VTEC (2 wires ).
C'moooonnnnnnn
Whatever, that site will have both the Y8 and the Y7.
EDIT:
I don't know what he's talking about with the whole Honda of America thing - sounds like a load of crap to me, a JDM motor will work fine, but assuming you're looking for an OEM replacement you can get another Y7...but especially if your wallet's kinda empty I'd throw a Y8 on there, it'll give you a little more kick + won't cost a lot.

Thanks for the quick response, I had a feeling he didnt have a clue what he was on about. Just said I would bring it here before getting back to him. Now off to the garage to have some words. Thanks
