97 Civic - smokes a little bit, smells like gas when running, and speedo doesn't work
i bought a 1997 4dr civic about 2 months ago with a d16z6 swap in it.. for the first month i drove it as it was but as i started getting comfortable with the car i wanted to look at the engine and started to get a head ache with all the random plugs and vacuum lines that didn't lead anywhere... the car smokes a little bit and smells like gas when its running.. im a noob i know.. was looking for some help from my fellow honda owners, my speedo doesn't work either.. i changed the VSS twice n it still doesn't work.

Re: New car need help with some issues
With all the vacuum lines, the previous owner probably turbocharged that car. Check to see if there are any exhaust leaks at the header and exhaust piping. As for the VSS not working, check to see if the plug is connected firmly.

Re: New car need help with some issues
Third Picture: ur Intake air tempature sensor harness is just wired together by twisting the stripped wires, buy some red butt connectors, a crimper, and some strippers. Then make that a halfway proper connection. Your purge valve for the evap system (the puts gas fumes from ur gas tank into ur motor) looks broke, get a new one. Ur brake booster hose clamp isnt on properly, get some pliers and but it on right.
Fourth Picture: That sensor is ur map sensor (manifold absolute pressure) its used to measure how much air the engine is ingesting. You do not have a maf sensor, so figure that cel code out cause its kinda important. That missing vacuum line is for the evap system, its pre throttle plate (so not really a vacuum line), its where the gas fumes go in at and u should have a hose connecting it to the charcoal canister (little black cylinder next to ur battery with three hoses coming out, one goes to the purge valve also). ur throttle cable looks like its about to break and the mount for it looks super rigged, prob ok but u should look into it
bank 2 sounds like u need a secondary o2 or ur catalytic converter isnt doing its job and u need a new one. clean ur air filter, get new plugs, and throw a fuel filter on it.

Your problem isn't much like the OP's, you should start a new thread. The OP clearly had massive electrical issues from someone doing a bad job working on the car.
High HC and CO means it is running too rich. Check the fuel pressure. Make sure the compensator vacuum hose is connected to the fuel pressure regulator. Take out the spark plugs-- if only one is black, there is too much fuel going to that cylinder, like a bad injector.
