There's a TSB out for some 97-99s with lose ignition switch. Do a search on NHTSA.gov.

uhmmm.... have you tested the altenator? maybe it is bad.... meaning its not charging your battery, which means the car is running off the battery, making the battery go dead.... and the car doesnt have enough power to run...

the car only shuts off after I have driven it for a while but then it starts right back up... I think its the alternator but the auto zone guy said it could be the ignition coil? how do I test the altinator ...Un plug the battery with the car on?

yes, you can test your alt. by running the car, unhook the battery... if it keeps running fine, alt. might be good. or it might only be fading out after it gets hott. whatever you do. do NOT hook the battery back up while the car is running. my neighbor did that to my moms grandam and it fried something. now her check gauges light always flickers and **** never reads anything correctly.. make sure you turn the car back off before hooking up battery. and its not the coil. if the coild was bad it wouldnt want to start. just keep turning over....... eventually might start .. but the mis and run shitty.... and after a short time just go bad. not the coil though, been there, done that twice. had your same problem, was the altenator.

preciate the info...well if its not the alternator then I don't know what it is.. but I'll try running the car and undoing the battery to see what happens..but your sure you don't think its the coil? hey you know what I have these nology wires in. do you think they could be causing the problem? I heard they could go bad...

Yup, this happened to a friends car, you should take it to a local honda dealership and have them run your vin. to see if your car is part of the recall. my friend got a new dist., ignition coil, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, and oil change for free.. have them check it out.

i've never fried anything in my civic while hooking up the battery after the car's running. i've done it maybe 5 times.
