Default 97 civic shaking/cupping

97 civic ex stock, no major play in the suspension, alignment check showed rear suspension to be out 40 degree's or so on the toe. front tires are wearing on the inside of the tire unevenly. and the car shakes at around 55+

the shaking although slight can be very annoying on long trips.what is likely to cause these issues?

I don't think you mean 40 degrees. Did you actually GET an alignment? Car ever been in an accident?

i think there was some front end damage but from what i can tell it wasn't too bad just the bumper was replaced.

i got a free alignment check at roc city, was waiting till i solved the shaking before i got an alignment. but i lost the paper so i am not sure the exact angles, front wasn't too bad. the back was off and the wheel bearing had slight wear he said.

How would that not be an alignment issue?

+1 Get the aligment done...

Also, have them check your rack, and any damaged boots or loose inner or outer tie rods.

i read the alignment or unbalanced tires can cause the shaking. after paying for the tires to get balanced with no change in the shaking, i gave up thinking it was an easy fix. the wearing on the tire i read was likely caused by worn suspension parts. also the tires growl going down the road sounds like the way off road tires sound.

ultimately i plan to get an alignment but i was planning on doing, shocks, and the rear disc swap, and any worn bushings first.

And eat up tires until you do.

point taken, i will try and hurry the suspension work so it can be aligned.

bolts seem to break a lot on these cars, more so here in ny. Is there anything to consider when taking apart suspension parts? i was considering getting a torch before touching the suspension parts. i ordered eibach pro-kit and i have an integra rear trailing arm and sway bar i plan to install at the same time. hopefully all of the bushings are in good shape.

There is no way in hell you have 40 degree's of toe.

Buy a can of Areo-kriol and spray it on the bolts, drive it for a week, and repeat. When the time comes to remove the bolts have an impact, and torch on hand....

I reccomend using a impact, and doing "short bursts" this will help in saving bolts.

And coat the suckers in anti seize when you put them back togther. Not just the threads, the whole bolt.

wouldn't the tires already be ruined because of the uneven wear? also is there any checks front/rear that can be done aside from rocking the tire back and forth.

also i shouldn't have taken the alignment guys word for the trailing arm bushings, after looking at those today they both appear to be torn. which explains the creaking in the rear suspension. i plan to install the ta bushings on the integra trailing arm, how would i clock it if it wasn't originally on the car. i sprayed the bolts down really good but they don't appear to be too rusted. is it better to loosen the bolts with the suspension loaded or not? this is my first real suspension project, i just want to make sure its done correctly.

Sure. But keep driving 'til you're showing the metal in the tread and maybe even a blowout on the highway at speed. Mounts would not cause tire wear even if they are bad. If shocks were blown you'd have a bouncier ride.

Get the alignment.

yeah the drivers side rear tire is showing some wear, would the alignment be pointless with the trailing arm bushing being torn?

i won't need another alignment after doing trailing arms/bushings, as well as shocks and springs, plus a sway bar?

i read that just part of the shock could go bad and it would not be bouncy.

Get the aligment done before you start buying parts you may not need..

that makes sense, i wanted lowering springs and shocks for a better ride and lower center of gravity anyway, the bushings are torn so they need replacing anyway, the rest of the stuff i already have like rear disc swap and sway bar. i might consider attempting spindle swap instead of trailing arm as my trailing arm is in better shape, than the integra.
