Default 97 Civic - Mode control and dash lights problems

Sorry mods, still getting used to everything but here's my car...

1997 Honda Civic HX, Auto.

Ok guys, I've had this problem since I've had the car but ignored it, but now I can't because of the winter. My heat controls have been broken, and the lights that go on when you press the button for the mode won't work. No matter what mode I choose the air only comes out of the defrosters, and front vents. Now here's the kicker...the air coming out of the front vents is cold, but the air coming out of the defrosters is warm? Don't know what thats about, but it sucks. Driving around with cold feet is not fun I don't know if its just the climate control unit that is suspect, or something else.

Now my second problem....

This has been happening recently, but didn't happen when I got the car. Most of the time now when I first get in the car the dash lights don't work. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Most of the time I will be driving and after a half hour they will just randomly turn on again. And once their on, their on for the rest of the night usually which I found kinda weird. I thought it was maybe a bad wiring issue with the after market radio, so I took it out and unplugged everything. It still does it, so I'm assuming this isn't the culprit. Now I am thinking the dash light dimmer switch...What do you guys think this could be? Or what is it usually if this is a common problem?

i have no clue either but yeah try swapping the climate control and check that the plugs at the back of it fully in. as for the lights maybe ur bulbs are going out. i had one on my cluster that was going out and would turn on randomly or not at all, i would then flick it and it would work perfect. i switched it out and have had no problems since.

Check whether the plug for the dimmer switch is loose.
