97 civic missing cat and 2nd o2 sensor?
i have a 97 civic d16y8 and i don't see a cat on the car anywhere, where is the stock catalytic converter supposed to be located? also where is the 2nd o2 wiring located the one after the cat.
what the exhaust looks like now is a stock manifold into what looks like a (header) downpipe, to the midpipe, and in front of the rear wheels the resonator and out the back.
the engine harness was just replaced and there is a green wire under the intake that has been cut,
the old harness that was replaced had a green and black wire no connector.

cat is supposed to be under the center console and the wiring is supposed to go inside the car near there?
i can post a pic shortly but i believe the cat is missing and im not sure if i can just add one in or if i will have to replace the exhaust,

Any competent exhaust shop should be able to weld in a cat and bung for the secondary O2 for a lot cheaper than it would be to replace the exhaust.

Re: 97 civic missing cat and 2nd o2 sensor?
the car was a dx originally so is there a possibility that the cabin harness has a connector for the secondary o2 sensor?

What does plug and play have to do with the position of O2 pigtails? Also, I seriously doubt anyone is going to do a motor swap and keep the stock exhaust anyway.

Re: 97 civic missing cat and 2nd o2 sensor?
what i meant by plug and play, was maybe a different cabin harness with the pigtail in the correct position.
also most the swaps/civics in this area are cobbed together its nothing new.

Re: 97 civic missing cat and 2nd o2 sensor?
The CX/DX/LX/HX had the cat integrated into the exhaust manifold resulting in a longer midpipe, using a CX/DX/LX/HX midepipe with an EX manifold will result in not having a cat. As far as the O2 sensor situation goes, the Y7 harness has both O2 sensor plugs integrated into the engine harness. On an EX the secondary O2 sensor is part of the cabin, therefore using a Y8 engine harness in a non EX/Si/HX car will result in no provisions for a secondary O2 sensor.

looks like the oil leak on the front of block is a bigger issue than no secondary 02 sensor
run a obd2 - obd1 ecu jumper to 5spd p28 and you wont have to worry about secondary 02

Re: 97 civic missing cat and 2nd o2 sensor?
oil on the pan is from removing the oil filter the other oil is from removing the distributor and maybe a little from the valve cover.
i was considering replacing the exhaust with ex/si exhaust, or just using a universal cat and wiring the o2 to the ecu, not sure the best way to wire into the ecu without replacement barrel connectors.
