'97 Civic LX Keyless Entry
I bought a DoCooler keyless entry remote / box from Amazon () and am having a bit of trouble with it.
I've done my research and found out the following:
Civic ('97 LX) uses a negative-trigger system
Under the driver's side kick panel, there will be a box that controls the lock/unlock functions.
Green/white - power lock
Green/orange - power unlock
Now for my question: I don't have an OEM head unit, and I know that the receive for the OEM key fob is located in the back of the stock head unit. I have not found definitive information as to whether or not this receiver is necessary for aftermarket keyless entry systems, like what I am trying to install. I know it's necessary for the OEM fob, because that's where the receiver / programming is located, but for an aftermarket one I would assume it would be "self-contained", so-to-speak.
However, I read this thread: Link which made me rethink it, since he was using an aftermarket system, seemed to have it hooked up correctly, and wasn't able to get it working.
Other question: is the best way to use those three-way splice connectors? Or do I need to cut, solder, or crimp?
