97 civic keyless - headunit
Alright guys, I'm sure you've heard this problem before. I bought my car with an aftermarket HU already installed, so neither the keyless entry nor the dome light sensor work. I read that I have to get a stock radio and hide it behind the dash, so I went to a pull-it yard and bought a 98 Civic stock radio. The bad thing is, it turns out there are 2 extra pins on the green (p18?) connector for the keyless entry. Do you guys happen to have a pinout for the radio and the connector so I can solder the wires manually? I already know which pins to splice off the main audio/power connector, I just need to know which wires go to what on the smaller green connector. If necessary, I can post pictures. Thanks in advance for your help.

yea the same thing happend to me but i put the aftermarket hu in n yea look at the topics ive started and i have started a topic on keyless entry they give you a few ideas on how to fix it

Whoever told you that you needed to hide the stock radio behind the dash is an idiot. I have a '99 Civic coupe with a kenwood headunit and my stock head unit is in my closet and my keyless entry and dome light both work!

96-98 civic keyless is really controlled by the factory radio.
You can get the dome to work by connecting some wires..which ones I dont remember, but you can find them by searching.
For keyless, one or two people say they have gotten it to work with a relay...which Id love to see since the receiver is in the radio itself...so...theyre just bs'ing imo.
As far as I know, the radio has to be from a known keyless model, the others are different (dont quote me on that).

The head unit has to stay in the car...I usually get it to fit under the radio above the cupholders. Metra also makes a harness that you can relocate it to the trunk, you have to plug in the green harness and ground, 12V, and accessory to the factory radio. It's not that hard just a pain in the ***.

I understand that I need to put the HU behind the dash. The problem is I picked up a 98 HU (which does have keyless in it) but the green security connector has two less pins than my connector does. Does anyone know the pinouts of the wires so i could just solder them manually? Or am I SOL for buying the 98 radio.

Are you 100% positive that the car you pulled it from had keyless entry?
That green connector does more than just unlock doors - operates the horn, dome, some other crap.
Im thinking that since its lacking 2 pins, those pins are what controls some part of the locking...

I'm not aware of the model of the car from which the radio was pulled, but I've looked at other stock civic HU's and none of them that have keyless not in the HU have that connector. They only have the DIN, the audio harness, and the antenna jack. You could be right but I'd like to see a pinout to be positive.

i have a harness from schose or w,e its called but not all my wires on the harness are hooked up so yea idk what to do becasue i thing i threw the box away for the harness so i dont know what harness i have n i dont have the wiring guide this kind of blows ill figure it out tho

Thank you so much, that is exactly what I needed. Now my only dilemma is figuring out what the two extra wires on my connector are. My radio is exactly how that picture is, but my connector has a wire to the left of B1 and to the left of B8, so the connector is symmetrical (same number of wires on each side). I'll start working on the manual soldering when I get home but if anyone has any info reguarding these wires it would be greatly appreciated.

you do realize you can put an aftermaket keyless on very easily and inexpensively, especially considering that chart shows you the lock wires.

Yes, and I intend to eventually, but the alarm system I want to get is pricy so until I get it I'd like to make use of what I have and be at least a little secure.

i newly had a 97 civic ex and its keyless doesnt work,
previous owner of the car said that it was working but suddenly stopped working two weeks ago.
it has a after market unit on it and the stock head unit is in the dash, but the valet button that is mentioned in the re-programing guide is not on the head unit, in fact there are not any buttons on the stock head,
i want to try to re program the keyless, but how?
the one involving turning on the ignition on and off several times doesnt work. I think it is for ones newer than 99
please help me

Another thing is on the ex and maybe the lx there is another green plug behind the radio that looks similar to the keyless plug, but it is for the security system that bolts to the top of the HU.
