Just bought a 97 hx civic. Noticed it didnt have turn signals left or right, so i turned hazard lights on to see if it was a bulb issue with the key out of the vehicle, and the left signals flash fast, the guage lights come on, fuel pump cuts on, and main relay gets power just as if u had tuned the car to "on" positon. Things i know are good consist of flasher relay, combo switch, all fuses under hood and dash. Its really confusing, because i cant think of anywhere that the hazard switch would tie into the main relay. If anyone can help, or give any input, i would appreciate it

could it be a malfunctioning kill switch? just thinking outside the box.

forgot to mention, wipers also have power to them with the hazard switch engaged but blower motor doesnt unless i key power on normally

My guess is that the dash fuse box is bad. Remove it and inspect for damage. Also check the wires in the dash fuse box plugs for any signs of damage.

does it have an aftermarket stereo? my friends 97 dx will do this when the hazards are on. something to do with how people hook up their stereos.

will remove fuse box and check all connections tomorow. yes it does have aftermarket stereo and was moved to right above the cupholder in front of shifter by a previous owner

update:

so i pulled the swapped si guage cluster out, ac controls out, and lower panel below ac panel. i traced the wires starting at cd player, then to hazard switch, and when i got to wiring near the guages, i noticed one wire just dangling from a harness that plugs into a connection with nothing on the other side. Also noticed some wires like 2 inches from that connection were burnt up a little. Im wondering if something hot touched something it wasnt supposed to in that harness, and possibly fried a portion of my under dash fuse box. basically this harness runs from fuse panel up to guages and then to hazard switch, accessory socket, and i believe cd player. Gonna price out the harness tomorow at work, and hopefully pull the fuse box out and see if i can find any signs of damage. any input is appreciated

replaced dash harness, dash fuse box, and ICU and car is fixed now. Pulled apart old ICU and looked fine. Pulled apart fuse box and also no sign of any damage, so i really got lucky on this one =/
