Re: 97 civic help please
DC headers are little better than stock. You're going to get the best mileage from your engine with stock components.
The header would have a mild effect on the sound of the car. Also, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to run a straight pipe instead of a catalytic converter.
What are your goals for the car? Engine?
It would also really help you if you put subject specific thread titles on your posts.

it is a header there is only 1 and straight pipe you will fail smog can be fined for removing an emmision device and it will make your car buzz won't do anthing for fuel milage if anything it will be worse because your engine light will be on for catalyst efficency .

Re: 97 civic help please
straight pipe would increase your MPG but you'd definitely fail smog tests.
both these things will increase horsepower. it'd give it a nice sound too.
but i wouldn't do this in cali if i were you

Re: 97 civic help please
What are you wanting out of the modification? A catch all improvement to your car?
There is no such thing.
What engine do you have?
DC sports is a waste of money unless you have to have it for carb legal reasons. There are much better headers out there for a tad more money.
The answer has already been given, it's more likely to decrease your mileage and slightly increase the decibels of your exhaust note. That's it.
A good tune up and saving the rest for gas money will be a lot more effective than spending ~$300 on a header to try to improve gas mileage.
That's like spending $40,000 on a Chevrolet Volt to spend less money on gas. It doesn't make sense.

Re: 97 civic help please
No.
No. The exhaust/muffler will be mainly responsible for that. The header only a little.
My guess is that you want to install a header to have people to look at you when you drive by. Dumb reason to install anything.

Re: 97 civic - header and straight pipe questions
i wanted to install headers because i thought it could possibly improve my MPG as i was told,
and yes DC headers were the ones i was looking for 4 to 1 because i need them for carb legal reseason to pass smog and emisions.
im sorry im a dumbass to everyone here on the forums, but i just want to put some headers in and i thought it would increase my airflow to my engine thus causing better running and performence at a certain extend, AND increase the miles per gallon, NOT decrease....

Re: 97 civic - header and straight pipe questions
For the 90th time, it's header, not headers. It's one item. Not multiple items.
And as mentioned earlier, if you're looking to improve your gas mileage you're looking in the wrong area. You need to change the transmission to something with long gears, and change the aerodynamics of the car to increase mileage.
