97 Civic EX knock Sensor ByPass or resolution
My friend has no knock sensor in his mini-me (essentially a 97 EX)
is this code 23 knock sensor code putting the computer into limp mode or having any negetive effects on his car aside from the ugly CEL?
i'm going to help him install one once he has money, which could be tomorrow or could be next month, i dunno yet... but until then, is it hurting anything?

no negative effects other then there is lack of performance, richer running maps and less igintion timing. not something you want to run forever but nothing in the short run will happen.
there are only more expensive solutions to this then replacing knock. one would be to disable it using chipping, other to run obdI ecu with harness converter which doesn't look for knock.
unfortunatly a old (pr3 and pw0) were able to be fooled with a resistor and ground the newer ecus look for something else.

sounds like we'll be tapping a knock sensor this weekend or next....
will vtec still engage without the knock installed or wired?

you never stated what engine this is for. you may want to check and make sure there isnt a hole for it already. the y7 has the hole drilled and tapped already even though it doesnt use a knock sensor the y5 and y8 have a knock sensor from the factory. hth

Re: 97 Civic EX knock Sensor ByPass or resolution (nub)
it's a 97 dx with a z6 head... block is the y7
computer is obd2 from an ex
where is the tapped hole for the knock on the y7? a picture would be awesome. and does anyone know if the wire for the knock is in the DX harness already and just needs to be "moved" a little? or do we need to run a wire? a pic would be great, thanks
