Icon6 97 Civic DX: Where does the horn connect to?

I bought a civic that needs some TLC bad. I'm really a noob to this scene but I'm learning a bit so far. I finally found the horn but the connecter has it's pigtail cut off. I'm assuming these 2 wires connect to the steering wheel but since my steering wheel has buttons for the horn it might spider into the harness in the engine bay. I have no clue and no manual. If anyone can help me out so I can get my car inspected I'd appreciate it.

is the connector cut off from the wire on your steering wheel or under your steering column

There are 3 wires from the steering column, not sure if they are for the horn. But from my memory 1 yellow, 1 green, and 1 red..but the wire cut I see for sure is from the horn itself. The harness that connects to the horn is cut off and I have no clue of where it traces back to. Maybe these 3 wires I'm talking about might be it?

From the steering wheel's horn switches, there are supposed to be
(1) horn wiring inside the steering wheel connecting to...
(2) what is called a "cable reel assembly" (also known as "airbag clockspring" or "slip ring") that will have horn/airbag/Cruise Control (if present) wiring connecting to...
(3) a connector under the steering column that feeds the horn, SRS, and Cruise Control wiring out to different parts of the under dash wire harness.

From the wiring diagram I have, it is possible the red wire is to your left and right steering wheel horn buttons, but then the red wire is supposed to go into the cable reel assembly. Coming out of the cable reel assembly the horn switch wiring changes to blue or possibly gray.

The cable reel assembly is item 2 at http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/...st/Heater/Fuel

From your other thread, you said the SRS light is on, right? With the horn problem, this suggests to me that someone has monkeyed with the cable reel assembly wiring. Maybe, like another poster said in your other thread, to put in an aftermarket alarm system? Is your airbag even intact? Have you taken off your steering wheel and seen the cable reel assembly? If not, use the free online manual at autozone.com for the 97 Civic and follow the steps for taking apart the steering wheel. Note the precautions on the SRS system. Report back.

Short of buying a Helm shop manual, for decent wiring diagrams your best bet is to call your local public library and ask if they have a username and password for ebscohost. Then login for free at http://search.ebscohost.com/ . Click on "Auto Repair Reference Center." Look for the link to the wiring diagrams. My Chilton's manual actually has pretty decent wiring diagrams in it, as well, so you could try buying a Chilton's (NOT Haynes) for your year of Civic at Autozone and the like, too.
