Default 97 civic d16y7 - Replacing bearings in transmission

Hey guys I'm trying to replace some noisy bearings in my transmission. I've already got it all apart and took out the old input shaft bearing. However I noticed that another bearing was destroyed. I believe this is the mainshaft bearing? The outer race seems to be stuck in the case. Was this bearing supposed to come out attached to the whole gear set like it is in this first picture? Anyone know what part # this is? Also what is the plastic beneath it? Mine is broken. Do I need it? The last three pictures are mine.

Do yourself a favor and Google for, and download, the Factory Service Manual.

What transmission is that? You failed to mention anything about it

Is that not the main shaft bearing?

A bearing puller should get the race out

Honda Automotive Parts

I think 13 is what you need.

Should pull race out and press new bearing in

thanks for the manual tamboo!

92ehatch, are you certain the new bearing gets pressed into the transmission case? because every time I watch any videos or see pictures, the bearing is attached to the gear set..as shown in the first picture.

I do not know for sure, i have never taken one apart.

I can tell you that bearings work by running the inner race against the ***** and the outer race staying stationary. I would then assume is pressed

It does NOT get pressed into the case. The only bearings that are pressed into the case are on the clutch house side (actually they're taped in with a hammer). There are no bearings pressed into the bellhouse side.

It's pretty clear in the FSM that the bearing needs to be on the mainshaft.

Could be wrong but the bearing looks very bad. Look at the housing and make sure the outer race did not spin.

You're probably better off figuring out what the part number is and then going to a stealership.
