97 Boosted Civic EX Compressions Test, Is Motor Doomed???
I was wondering if you guys could help me with the problem i have. I just did a compression test on my 97 turbo civic ex and here were the numbers...
Cylinder #1 - 190
Cylinder #2 - 195
Cylinder #3 - 190
Cylinder #4 - 203
In my haynes manual it says stock is suppose to be 184psi with a variance of +-24
203 is getting close to the max variance
Can anything be done to help cyclinder #4 to bring it back down? Seafoamed it 2 weeks ago but only use a 1/3 of the can, was i suppose to use the whole can?
Or is my motor just going unless I change out the pistons and rods to handle the boost?
My setup:
15g greddy kit
type 31 fmic
msd wires
ngk 1 step colder plugs (looks kinda ashy in color???)
lucas 440cc injectors
afc hack
aem pulleys
turboxs dual stage boost controller
any help would be great because if my motor is doomed, i'm not going to buy a new clutch and flywheel. Just save to swap motor

did you discharge the fuel system, or you could of also just cranked it one time to many. There is no such thing as higher compression number then stock unless you touched the internals.

i thought you couldn't over crank it. you just crank it until the pressure doesn't rise anymore.

i just cranked it 10 times each cylinder.
no i did not discharge the fuel system, i just simply removed the 15a fuse from the fuse box in the engine bay. What do you mean by discharge the fuel system? Opening gas cap? Or actually disconnecting at the fuel filter?

wrong, sorry buddy. after the eng. is lubed up. (crank it a faw times or untell it's lubed) you can tell if it's lubed or not buy putting the psi tester on the #1 cyl. and crank it up untel it hits 200 or 180, and then reset it. crank it over it sould pump three times, at the thired time, thats your psi. keep the psi the same for like ten sec. it should hold that psi. if the rings are good. if you notice if you just keep cranking it will keep going up. O yeah and just to let you know a motor will run on 80psi. lol so keep that in mind do this to all the cyl. good luck, O yeah what's your boost and how meny miles on that eng. ????

it says it increases your compression...maybe thats why your numbers are high :dunno:

Re: 97 Boosted Civic EX Compressions Test, Is Motor Doomed??? (civtegra_hybrid)
right now i'm running 5.5psi half the time and at night 10 psi. My motor has 85k on it. I was just wondering because lately my car has been running like *** going up hill and was wondering if this was the problem. Am I really cranking it too long? I thought it says to keep cranking til it can't go anymore

yeah jack, first see if you have any blow by. start your car and take off the oil cap, and see if smoke come's out, and if it does, then your rings are gone. then how meny miles do you have on it ??? and just to let you know that's three times after it's lubed up, that means you have to crank it for a while to lube it, and then reset the gauge, then when you crank it it should jump higher, and only take Three or fourth the most. to bring it up to the spec. that it's at.
