96-up Civic ECU Question

What's the difference between the 37820-P2P-A32 and the 37820-P2P-A33? Just the last number is different. They are both 96-up Civic EX vtec ECU. Please help me out. I believe they are both manual.

Could be the year? The P2P is the only one that really matters, and the OBD generation of course. =D

Re: 96-up Civic ECU Question (stinkysnowman)

I know there are two versions of OBD2 ECU's. There was OBD2 version 1 which was in Civics from 96-98 and then there was version 2 from 99+. I'm not sure how the programs differ but I know that the ECU pinouts are different as well.

But to expand on this topic, does anyone know the difference between OBD1 and 2 ECU's? I am aware that OBD1 responds better to performance parts and can be chipped. An example being I've seen 5th gen civics vs. 6th gen civics both with Greddy Turbo's and for some reason the 5th gen always seems considerably faster. Examining the D16Z6 vs the D16Y8 shows you that the D16Y8 is a slightly "better" motor so is the loss in power due to OBD2? Then does anyone have any testimonials for swapping over to OBD1? TIA

yes you are right OBDII ecu does take away power only because its easy to make it go into safe mode....also knock sensor and few more sensor, make it possible...also secondary 02 seems to make, also trigger the decrease in timing and fuel maps...

usually swaping the ecus to the OBDI yields about 5-8whp....dyno tested....
