Default 96 ITR brakes onto a 97 hatch

Okay, I've waded through the 96 ITR brake thread and could'nt find a couple of answers.

Did anybody ever find a rear disk that is usable other than a brembo blank or a redrilled rotor?

I've never done a brake swap (front or rear) so will I need a ball joint puller for the fronts (to get the hub off)? I would assume that I will.

Will the prop valve on a 96ITR (no abs) bolt right up to my stock lines without reflaring?

Aside from the master cylinder, brake booster, prop valve and of course all four corner's brakes what do I need? I know I need new fluid.

I cannot reuse my stock E-Brake cables can I? I seem to remember hearing that I could.

I hope there are enough people with this setup to help me get some feedback.

i can answer one of those questions.... you dont need a ball joint separator if you take off the castle nut you can hit the LCA with a BFH(big f*ing hammer) and the ball joint should come apart pretty easily

1. rear disk i dont know, from the FAQs in this forum it says rear unknown on top of page 3

https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=3

2. swapping out the front you might need a ball joint remover but you can always pound it off with a rubber mallet. as for the rear, air tools would help but its pretty much simple bolt off with wrenches and ratchets.

here is a good tutorial to how to remove the balljoint, check out number 8
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=382416

3. mine already had disk brake so i didnt need to change the prop valve so i'm not help here

4. yes you'll need fluid

5. i'm not 100% sure but you might need an E-brake cable DONT QOUTE ME

i wasnt much help but hopefully someone else that has done this will chime in.

Yeah, that's why I was asking agian. I already saw that and waded through all 5-6 pages of that thread he started about it. I got most of my questions answered, but was still a little unclear on these things. Keep the opinions coming guys!

if you already have rear disc setup then you can keep the brake cables. everything is pretty much a bolt on process.

Correct. Thanks. I hope the ones I have will work, but don't know what other brake cables I could use short of some CTR ones.

Use the itr brake cable, its easier. Everything bolts right up. Joint pullier a must if you have pipe cleaner arms.
As for the rotors Endless makes for the 96itr and they have them in stock. They are little pricey but good stuff. If you have any question like Spoon caliper with Prelude IM me.

Thanks agian man!! I bench over 240 and I have a buddy who benches over 330, so I think between the two of us we can get by without a ball joint puller. I'll go see how much they are though. Thanks a bunch man!

EDIT: Just found out I need rear SI lines, so I'm going to post it in here so I don't forget!

"Why use your muscle when you can use your mind," that was what I said to my brother when he pounded on it for about 15 minutes. So have fun and enjoy comments like "Why don't you get some real Type-r instead of painting your HX rims."

What I have:

2 bottles of fluid will work. I think you have everything. Yeah, just use the brake cable that it comes and maybe a six pack of your choice of beer equals a good day.

Yeah I bought spring compressors as well when I could have rented them. I just like tools..what can I say. One more question....wtf did you guys do about the hubs on the brakes being 36mm and my stock axles only being 32mm??

might as well go stainless steel lines for the 99-00 si's while you're at it. Some people say that the drum/disk prop valves for all civics are the same but i say BS. Get an si prop valve. 98-01 ITR MC/BB are pretty much bolt on for civics. I have it on my car. that's about it. Some pads and you're STRAIGHT

I just did the GSR rear brake swap on my 96 EX, so I hope I can help.

The way the ebrake cables mounted seemed very different on the drums vs the disks. I just used the GSR ebrake cable. it was a tight fit but it worked.

As far as the brake lines the GSR also worked just fine.

I dont know the diff between a hatch and a coupe but I hope this helps. if you have any questions PM me
