96 Honda revving up problem
My son has a 96 Honda civic crv, occaisonally it takes alot of time to build speed in 1st gear then we he shifts gears, it starts revving. He bled and replaced slave cylinder, that didnt help. He said he tested the clutch by putting it in 3rd or 4th gear with Emerg. brake on and slowly let out clutch, it stalled as it should have.
Any ideas what is wrong? does he need to replace whole clutch? thanks

Re: 96 Honda revving up problem (pattypsp)
meaning that when he is out of 1st gear it works ok? but first gear seems to slip, ... or perhaps put more pressure on the engine?
IM NOT AN EXPERT... but... if it works as I think some of it might, perhaps 1st gear is ground down or maybe whatever 1st spins on is grinding, making it hard to turn. Go figure, give more descriptions of the problem, and Im sure that someone with actual 1st hand experience will pop up and suggest things.

Re: 96 Honda revving up problem (CooBlueDAB)
This is my sons description: intermittent problem, revs really high and takes a long time to build up speed in 1st, when I shift again it does the same revving with little power. Some days the car shifts fine, others it does the above....

how many miles on the car? if it is a 96, I would say its time for a new clutch especially if it hasnt been changed before... yet again, Though I want to be, im not a manual man.... so I cant say for sure...

I'm 100% positve that's your clutch. I garuntee if you replace that the problem will be fixed. The clutch is so worn down that it slips even when your driving it safely. I would go with a Stage II Centerforce Clutch Kit....It still has the stock feel and works great!

Replace the clutch with an OEM clutch, or an Exedy OEM style replacement kit. There's probably no way to justify spending the extra money on a performance clutch when it's more than likely stock.
