Default Will an obd2 ecu work on an obd1 motor?

I've got a d16z6 in my 1998 civic. I just got the car on Saturday and the swap was done terrible. The wiring harness is spliced in so many places its unreal. I want to get obd2 back into the car so would a p2p ecu and a new y8 harness work with the motor? I'm sure there's some things I'll have to rig a little bit to make it work but what does it take?

well we all can tell you that once somebody says all wiring is hacked up, there isn't much we can do, but we can try to help u out man

first of all is how is it running/idling?

check to see what ECU is in there

The ecu is the one for the motor. Its the p28. The idle is pretty shitty. At first it was idling really low. Like 200 rpm. I adjusted the throttle cable and that helped a little bit but it jumps around. About between 500-1500 rpm. It's like its confused. Second the vtec doesn't kick in. Other than that it runs down the road good. My speedometer doesn't work either. Here is the wiring mess from the ecu.

i would just leave the harness like that, don't even mess with it since you said it starts and drives good but has shitty idle

check/clean
IACV
FITV

check for any vacuum leaks

I don't want to leave it like that. Its so bad there's open wires there's a chance for a fire or something. Everyone I showed it to couldn't believe their eyes. It's just too bad to just leave like that. Plus I can't even check codes. The odb1 way doesn't work so that blue plug wasn't wired right either. I want to get rid of the CEL if possible. It's just too bad to leave like that.

i can clearly see the jumper connector right there in the pic its brown and black wire with blue tip connector, looks closely in pic u can see it all the way at the right.

you can clean it up by taping all the wires out of the way, and tape the naked wires up.
if you want to go stock factory go buy the EK harness, the engine and the cabin harness and knock your self out if you want

jump the connector with a wire, and check the codes

No no i know that's the connector but we tried reading the codes from it and it just didn't work at all.

And i do want to get as close to factory as possible because I want to easily get it inspected when the time comes.

make sure you have it in II key position when jumping connector

If you don't wanna deal with the wiring and not work on it to get it close to stock for inspection, then all i can say is find another car

your vtec doesn't hit cause your speedo doesn't work....get the y8 harness, p2p ecu, y8 dizzy, y8 injectors and that will be a whole lot better

So it will work then. I think I already have y8 injectors cause there is a y8 intake manifold on it. How can I tell which dizzy I have? I think it's prob the z6 dizzy cause wires are spliced to that too.

So your saying connectors from the y8 harness wont just connect in to the connectors that they go to on the motor. It all needs to be respliced?

well you will need to check that out,

if its spliced it will not plug up, because its been converted.

check to see if you have obd2
injectors
alternator
distributor

like i said before if your see spliced wires coming out of each unit, then mostly likely its been converted, but make sure.

sounds as if it would be a good idea to just start over, suggestion was made to him considering he wanted it to be obd2. If he tore out that crap harness and put in all y8 stuff including the intake mani he says he has, why would splicing be needed? Not being a dick just genuinely curious?

I would bet money the idiot who put that swap together left in the obd2 alternator as well?

splicing is not needed if he finds another y8 harness.

Yeah its an obd2 alternator cause I had replace that already cause it was grinding and I just took one off of an 97 d16 in the yard and it worked. I don't see any splicing for the alternator wires either.

good

find yourself an uncut y8 harness and swap it in, EK engine harness comes in 1 piece unlike the eg's, they have 2 splitter connectors.

your confusing man....you said he would need to re-splice everything after the idea of the y8 harness, ecu, dizzy, and injectors was mentioned...by myself. If it was all y8 components, it would all plug in
