Default 96 hatch steering wheel does not return to center (solved)

hey guy's when ever i go around a corner and go to straigten out i have to steer straight again the wheel doesn't want to come back checked tie rods and balljoints has new upper balljoints and 1 tierod toe is ok and so is camber couldn't check caster but no adjustment there anyway. could this be a bad power steering rack ? it had some hard spots when i first got the car but i used lucas powersteering fix and they went away. any help is welcome thanks.

if you haven't already, get an alignment. if the problem still remains then i would bet on the steering rack being toast.

Try flushing the PS fluid a couple of times and then add Honda or Honda-recommended PS fluid.

had an alignment but they didn't check the caster angle??? and i'll try flushing the power steering system if the uper control arms where on the wrong side it could cause this also i think ? so i'll have to find someplace warm so i can pull the wheels and check. anybody know if aftermarket arms are marked like the factory ones ?

ok so i checked the upper control arms and they are marked L and R and there on the proper sides after a 45 min drive today something started creaking on the right side so after i find what it is hopefully that will fix it but i'm still going to flush the rack fluids is dirty looking

If its steering hard, feels weird or wont return to center theres a good chance you have seized ball joints. Especially if you hear creaking. Remember to use only honda, or honda approved P/S fluid, do not use ATF.

Most of the aftermarket ball joints are junk. OEM honda is well worth the extra cost here. My OEM upper ball joints on my '94 Civic currently have 366,000kms on them with no play or seizing yet. The original lowers lasted 290,000kms and 316,000kms.

Other than OEM sankei/555 are supposed to be very good (they actually make OEM ball joints for Honda and Toyota)

Edit my upper ball joints and inner and outer tie rod ends now have 393,000kms on them, still going strong, I'm starting think they're going to outlast the car.
