96 hatch dx and s2000 seats - Not your typical seat question (solved)
Long story short, have 96 ek hatch dx and s2000 seats. swapped pans, rails, reclining mechanism etc. passenger seat went beautifully. sits straight, nice height etc. the drivers seat however has a substantial lean (from backrest) to the inside of the car making it awkward to drive. left the s2000 seat pan on, put cloth stock back rest on till i figure out what i need to do. as a side note, i have searched, ive been a vw/audi tech for 10 years some im not retarded (honest) and fully capable of fabricating something if necessary. just want to know if this is normal. thanks!!!

The problem is the left side (reclining side) is farther forward than the pivot side. I thought of either enlarging the existing holes substantially or welding an extension plate to the reclining mechanism......but no one has mentioned that and I took it apart six times assuming I did something stupid but no change.

I actually thought of that but 1.whybis it not mentioned in "how to" and 2. Why is the passenger seat perfect.

Is the slider even on both sides? This could cause the lean. You have an issue because they will fit correctly.

I imagine? When installing, I would generally place the seat in position, release the sliders and manually move them into location. Is there a "proper" way to do it.

I would try moving slider forwards or back all the way. I don't know that there is a certain way of doing it. Maybe post some pic of what your dealing with.

put the s2000 backrest back on the seat. fiddled with the sliders with the same result. ended up manually moving only one side of the sliders while the other side was bolted in and slightly forced it straight. i assumed you could lazily have the sliders free and just bolt them in......silly me. thanks for the replies!!!!

His suggestion for sliders was good as they can get pretty crooked during install which binds them at an angle

yes it is fixed. the rails were off a bit. i also noticed, sitting in the passenger seat for reference, that both seats are angled (ever so slightly)toward the center of the car, kinda like a porsche or any proper driving car. so once i realigned the rails and referred to the passenger seat for verification i quit being so **** retentive about.
