96 ex coupe wiring obd1 motor. need 02 help
96 ex coupe 5 speed. i have a dx or hx harness and i think it is auto.
i have run all the plugs(dizzy, iacv, iat, injectors, etc.)
the harness has about 7-8 more wires coming out of where the o2 plugs are-assuming auto harness- this end was already cut when i got the harness. cannot find an obd2aex harness, so it is this or nothing.
questions-what do i do with the 2 o2 plugs(one was cut off-assuming it was an o2 plug before)?remember, this chassis has an o2 plug that comes through the chassis near the cat. how do i wire this? can i take an ecu pinout and just run the wires straight to the o2 sensors. is everything right the way it is and i use one of the o2 plugs on the front of the block and plug in the one from the chassis for the cat? help!!!
question- if this harness is in fact auto, what else is screwed up?
basically look at my new post. the obd2a ecu pinout (96-98 civic) i am looking at does not match my harness and i cannot figure out what it is so i can repin it to run on a p2p(the correct computer for the car). this car needs to pass emmissions.

what happened to YOUR harness? you can extend the primary o2 and run that to the cat. or what ever o2 bung you will be using. you only need one since youre going obd1 and thats the primary!

not really understanding what your asking but yeah. if your wiring an obd1 motor with an obd 2 harness and computer your gonna need two O2 sensnors. the primary one goes before the cat and the secondary goes after.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm understanding that you've dropped in an OBD1 engine into an OBD2 vehicle and you want to stay OBD2 to pass emissions, correct?
I don't think its possible to pass (visual at least), depending on where you live and/or how strict the emissions law are in your town.
Here in CA, the engine itself has to be either the same year as the vehicle or newer; and if newer (such as an 96 OBD2 engine in an OBD1 vehicle) you have to run the 96 ECU that belongs with engine in the vehicle along with all of the smog equipment to pass, and there can't be any CEL's either.
That aside, to get your car running with a 96-98 US OBD2a ecu and OBD1 engine, here's what you need to do.
1) Your 2nd 02 sensor/wiring is already part of the cabin harness, so there's no need to add wiring for it. Simply use an OBD2 cat and plug it into the cat at its respective location.
2) you need to perform the CKF trick as explained on my tech site (for an OBD2a vehicle). If you don't perform this trick while using a US OBD2 ecu, you will get a CEL and your car will run like doo doo and you will definitely not pass emissions:
http://ff-squad.com/wp/?page_id=12
3) It sounds like you have an HX engine harness being that you have more than 4-wires at the primary 02 sensor. HX's have a 5 or 7-wire 02 sensor (i forgot), but if its more than 4 wires its defintely an HX harness.
I haven't personally dealt with an HX harness before, and it its auto that makes it even worse.
My suggestion to you is if you can't locate an 96-98 EX engine harness, try looking for a 5spd 96-98 CX or DX harness and modify it accordingly. That's the easiest solution I can think of for your wiring crisis.

thanks katman.
yeh, i saw all of your info in another thread u created. very helpful.
i cannot find a harness(obd2a ex 5 speed ) to save my life. or an ecu for that matter.
here, all you have to pass is normal inspection stuff like bald tires, and the computer scan(basically if u have no cels, u pass)
