96 DX hatch Firewall water leak - passenger front floor board soaked when it rains
Hey guys, since I finished my build I recently rediscovered this leak. My passenger front floor board gets soaked when it rains. I previously thought it was because the stock shift boot was detached when I pulled the interier for an overhaul. But now that the car has been sitting outside I've noticed the carpet on the passenger side gets soaked regardless of wether I drive or leave it parked. also it doesn't matter which way the car is parked, I can park uphill or downhill with same results.
I've searched for a while now and the only logical answer I have is the fire wall behind the ac/blower. I tested this theory with a garden hose and had about 20oz water in the car within 10 mins. But I still couldnt find the hole because of the blower. (Giggity) I really dont want to pull the entire dash out now that I've just finished everything!
The only thing I've found online was this service buletin which says the area where the firewall seals to the side of the car does not have enough caulk.1996 Honda Civic Water in Floor: Interior Problem 1996 Honda Civic...
I also checked NOFX's thread on common problems with no luck.
Anyone else had this specific issue? Im pulling the fender on my next day off and following the service buletins directions in hope of a fix!
Ron plz tell me you have some technical pages to assist me! lol

would it be entering the cabin through the cowel along the bottom of the windshield? the big hole where the outside air comes into the cabin.
i have seen them rust out there before.
where did you spray the water with the hose? on the firewall or windshield?

I sprayed it on the windsheild and it ran down the cowl and around the hood hindges. I took the cowl off and the hole that your talking about doesnt seem rusted out although its grimmy and dirty.

If it'd coming in through that hole then there will likely be water in the blower.
T take the blower off and look.
Unfortunately water leaks can be very difficult to track down. You are going about it the right way, just need to access the area in question so you can see the entrance point

thank you Ron and 92ehatch I dont believe its coming into the blower because it only gets wet under the carpet it doesnt drip onto it. theres a rubber piece glued into the floor right against the firewall and the water runs under it. Ill let you guys know something tomorrow. and Ill try to get pictures of everything I do. Just hopefully it doesnt rain tomorrow again.

Did you ever figure this out. I pulled whole dash. Found leak in top right corner and noticed it leaks when I spray water in those access hole areas. I have trouble getting sealer in there though? Any ideas?
