96 Civic with VSS CEL code -- under dash fuse 24?
So i've been reading about the under dash fuse 24 having something to do with the Vss? I have a 1996 honda civic with b20v swap. Cruise control, speedo, and vtec dont work and neither does the odometer. No volt reader and have no money to purchase one. any info on fuse 24 or anything i else i would need to know would be very appreciated thanks guys.
BTW i have already tried to replace the whole vss twice and no dice.

Re: quick question about under dash fuse 24
hmmm so then there must be some type of short somewhere between the vss and the ecu then? signal wire ? I get CEL code 17 vss still after replacing the vss. If the speedo was bad would it cause this Cel and make the cruise control not work as well ?

Re: quick question about under dash fuse 24
Is fuse 15 blown?
Does the VSS connector have voltage and ground? Have you checked for an open or short in the VSS signal wire (VSS to ECU, speedo, or cruise)?

Re: quick question about under dash fuse 24
fuse 15 is not blown and is intact. as for checking voltage and ground, i dont have a multi-meter and cant find anyone who does. Is the Vss signal wire Orange or is it white and blue ?

Will this multimeter work .... http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=900834_0_0_
Thanks Ron. If this does work , how would i go about checking it ?

1) Insert the black meter plug into the "com" hole and the red meter probe into the "V, Ohms, mA" hole not the "DC 10A" hole.
2) Turn the meter dial to measure continuity (white sound symbol on lower right side). If you touch the red and black meter probes together, you should hear a beeping or buzzing continuity sound.
3) Unplug the VSS connector and inspect the wires and connector terminals. Do you see any corrosion or damage?
4a) Turn key OFF. Touch any meter probe to the thermostat housing and the other meter probe to the black wire terminal in the VSS connector. Does the meter make the continuity sound?
4b) Dial the meter to measure DCV (red). Turn key to ON(II). Touch the black meter probe to the thermostat housing and the red meter probe to the Blk/Yel wire terminal in the VSS connector. What voltage do you read?

My Speed-o not working either, but no CEL for VSS. I will check mine tonight and post readings to compare to

Hey Ron i did the test you told me to do. There IS continuity with the black wire, and the blk/yel wire voltage read at 12.2 .. anything else i should check thanks.

Good.
Repeat test 4b, but instead measure voltage for the Blu/Wht wire in the VSS plug. Touch red probe to Blu/Wht wire terminal and black probe to black wire terminal.

Ron ! I fixed the speedo, it ended up being the female terminal so i got another one spliced them and now it works! but.... The speedo is 12mph off on the slow side . if im going 52 my speedo says 40.. thats how it was when i bought it though, any suggestions about that ? Thanks so much for your help. If it wasnt for you convincing me to buy the multimeter i probably would have gone crazy and wasted a ton of money so thank you.

That's great. The VSS plug is a very common problem. My guess would be that you'd need to replace the speedometer or cluster to solve the incorrect speed reading problem.
