96 civic oil pan d16y7 leaks...HELP!
I had a fairly slow leak coming from the oilpan gasket so i replaced the gasket and and it still leaks, more than before. I didnt have a torque wrench at the time so i kinda winged it, most likely one possibility for a problem, i didnt have any time to work on it so i just let it be for a couple weeks consistently checking the oil. the other day i took it all back apart and straightned out the gasket put some more silicone on it, and it leaks even worse now, is the gasket shot after only three weeks? I did have a toruqe wrench the second time, so i tightened it down to 8 lb-ft, which i thought was the number, correct me please if im wrong i didnt have a manual so i didnt know for sure, thats what a buiddy told me. Are there any other reasons you guys could think of for leaks??? Im thinkin i should just redo the entire job with a new gasket. If anybody knows any other likely problems please help. TIA.

One thing I've seen happen is the main oil seal (the seal in the oil pump which the crank snout goes through) becomes distorted allowing oil to get around it - happened to my D16Y7.
Make sure the oil pan is STRAIGHT.
Make sure not to over torque the bolts - I think your torque spec sounded right though.
Make sure to use Honda-Bond in the appropriate SPOTS - no where in the Helms does it call for a thin bead around the whole gasket - I think maybe 6-8 spots total.
Make sure to clean the gasket sealing surfaces - get any oil and old Honda-Bond off the block/oil pan.

DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN IT, that will cause it to leak also. look in your book (repair) for the right torque spec. I know I had the same prob. and the book will tell you all the torques spec. for every thing even your valve cover. good luck

yes, make sure you tighten them nice and easy.
the yellow circles i would add gasket maker, and the red lines would indicate where the hump on your oil pan is. (this is a DOHC pan, so use your imagination. )
honda tourqe specs is 9ft lbs.. thats about a 1/4 turn after snug.
