96 civic lxi 5 speed (Middle East) - Is the stock OBD1 ecu unchippable?

Pls correct me for any incorrect things that I may say.

1. Car is a 1996 civic lxi 5 speed that is equipped with an obd1 ecu(stock Middle east)
see attached pics.

http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...707_195428.jpg

2. OBD1 ecu's(USDM) i've seen were chippable but the chips in the board were not arranged same with my ecu.

3. There is no slot for an additional chip on the ecu shown on the photo.

4. Connector ports were not exactly same to any OBD0,obd2,obd2a but closest match is obd1.

Will any other 5speed obd1 non vtec ecu work?
Does anybody know where else does these type of civics exist?

Im planning on buying a 6th gen civic in the Philippines and need some info if the ECU and other electronics that i currently have here in the middle east is direct plug-in.

A P2C. The cars you guys got apparently have no emissions controls or O2 sensors on them and probably why the ECU is different. I also don't think any other ECU will work. You'd probably throw all kinds of codes. That is, if you could overcome the wiring issues. It doesn't look tunable. You may have to look into investing in a standalone system whatever your plans are.

you could always purchase an obd1 engine harness, ecu, and usdm/jdm dash harness and add an 02 sensor

Tnx for the replies. Modifications have to wait then. Importing stuff is not easy in this part of the world.

Does anybody know if these type of ecu's exists in the 5th or 6th gen civics in the Philippines?

Yes.

To answer your question, no it can't be chipped. Also, it's set up really weird. Fuel system is called SFI (Simplified Fuel Injection) injectors 1 and 4 fire at the same time and 2 and 3 fire at the same time. The distributor is also different (IIRC it lacks 2 or 3 of the sensors in a normal OBD1 distributor)

Yes, civic's here are weird and simple. A lot of the sensors are not available. Its just a step ahead of the carburator version. 5th gen civic's are all carburator type D13's.

Sounds like you will need to import more than just the wiring to tune with what we use at least. Instead of trying to make it like our cars, if it's already carbed, then maybe look into swapping another carbed engine in.

It's not carbed, it is injected, and it's got 4 injectors, but it's not a normal MPFI setup.

D13B4, multipoint fuel injection. Uses a similar intake manifold to the D16Y7, so I can understand why you would think it's carbed. Also, those blocks have a tendency to eat themselves from the inside out. Check out those coolant walls!

It seems that the civics released here were the cheapest trim to be able to compete in the low priced market. The carburetor version was easily distinguished due to its big circular steel casing for the air filter. I have spoken to one owner and he confirmed that indeed it was carbed. All 5th gens (sedan, hatch) on the salvage yard that ive seen were carbed.

I want to see pictures. Everything I've read says FI, not carb.

I'll take pics' whenever I have the chance. In most other areas, I know 5th gens came with FI. Here in Saudi Arabia is different, ex. 96-00 civic's are OBD1.

I think that had more to do with people in extremely warm climates like saudi arabia running straight water in them, or never changing the coolant. There's a lot of anti-corrosion additives in coolant and they only last about 3 years (5 years for long life coolant)

Some of them had D13 carbed engines, this includes some base European models as well. They do exist.
