96 civic heater hose removal tips needed

Default 96 civic heater hose removal tips needed
so i'm replacing my heater core and what's left to do is removing the heater core hoses. What's an easy way to remove it? The clip tighteners are faced downwards so i can't get them to open up to loosen them.
