Default 96 civic ex d16y8

Replacing my frapped y8 with rebuilt y8. Is this wise? Am I better off with a JDM y8 or can I come by a z6 for less? I want to stay single cam. Car is a daily driver, no racing, with a few mods. I am looking for good mpg and a little fun when I want it.

I want a y8 but they are really hard to find thats why I am looking at rebuilt for around $1500 all said and done. I keep seeing people saying that they can be found for 4- 5 hunrded but I have not found any even close to that. If I can get a fully rebuilt one for a few hundred more than why wouldn't I do that.

I will be driving this car 10,000+ miles accross the country and back as soon as the new engine goes in. After proper break-in if I go with rebuilt. I like the idea of a warranty for this trip. Am I crazy to go with rebuilt? I dont see a lot of other people buying rebuilt.

A single cam vtec is just like any other, performance wise. Rebuild your current and have a back up vehicle while its down. Or source a replacement and swap it in a day. Both of which have pros and cons. I would just rebuild and add a little extras to make it more fun when you want it. I personally dont think any internally stock single is "fun" while naturally aspirated.
