96 Civic EX Camshaft Torque Specs. HELP!
Hello everyone! I am new to the "Honda World." I recently purchased my first honda and sadly the motor was on it's last "leg." So I purchased all new parts and rebuilt the D16Y8 motor that was in it. I completed the rebuild just yesterday and it fired up and ran great for about 4-5 minutes and then shut off. After some investigating I came to find that the camshaft had stopped moving. The "key" on the cam gear had sheared off. The chilton I purchased had 2 torque Specs for the camshaft cap bolts. One was 104 inch pounds and the second was 14 foot pounds. A year wasn't listed it just stated that for 6mm bolts torque to 104 and 8mm bolts torque 14. So I took a guess and went with the 14ft lbs. I'm assuming that I should have gone with the 104 since the cam gear sheared it's "key" off with only 4 minutes of run time. So my question is how can I tell what millimeter bolts I have so I don't ruin the new cam gear I just purchased? If I for some reason come to find out that I did torque it to the proper spec what is the next area I should focus on? I had someone tell me that I may have over tightened the timing belt! Never heard of such a thing, but like I said new to Honda so maybe that's just something you only have to worry about with a Honda motor. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
