Default 96 civic engine swap problem

I have a 96 coupe civic which was 1.6ils. it was burning oil and then my immobiliser started to act up so i replaced the lot. i got a d16y8 sohc vtec engine from a 97 civic including ecu immobiliser key chip etc. but the sacrapyard that took out the engine just chopped the loom. i joined the loom, dressed up the engine and changed immobiliser and ecu. the car ran for about two minutes and cut out. i thought it had just ran out of petrol so i put some in and tried to start it but had no luck. its now a week since i had it running and i am no closer to solving the problem. ive added new plugs, checked all fuses, changed the distributer and several sensors. ive flash tested the ecu and this is only showing a code for the 02 sencor. ive changed the injectors and fuel rail and tested them, ive checked the ht leads and made sure it is getting spark. i dont know what else to do. the timing seems fine, just waiting to get the timing light. ive double checked all connections i made in the loom. WHAT else can i do, the car is getting fuel and spark and refuses to go. with the very first turn of the key it makes a slight effort to fire but then nothing, ive poured petrol directly into each cylinder, ive mixed up the leads and it wont even backfire. HAS anyone ever had this problem or has anyone any ideas for me

None of the USDM '96 - '00 Civics have an immobilizer in them, but i'm guessing from your use of the word petrol you're not in North America.

No im Irish, all our cars are imported, usually from england so all cars post 1996 have factory fitted immobilisers. anyway i went and got myself a timing light and the ignition time was a mile off. im not sure what caused it but its probably an ecu or immobiliser thing. i rotated the distributer back about 2 inches, its held on temperarily with a made-up bracket. the car is now running but not smoothly as you can imagine. The car will now have to go to an ecu specialist as i havent a clue how they work, unless anyone has any suggestions on a cheap fix. ive spent enough as it is and really sick of it now.
