96 Civic Emissions/Drive Cycle
Hey everyone, i have a 96 Civic EX with a obdii d series "zc" stamped block with a d16z6 vtec head.. tried to take it in for emissions and they said the ecu was not ready and that i needed to try and find the drive cycle and complete it in order to pass. i searched the other forums but could not find any other on this topic. thanks for the help.

Re: 96 Civic Emissions/Drive Cycle
Get an OBD II scanner or have somebody scan it, and find out exactly which monitor is not ready.
EVAP seems to be a bear to get to test itself. Theres a ridiculous procedure I can paraphrase.
Fill gas tank between 60 and 90 percent full. NOT FULL
Let sit for 8 hours.
Make sure outside temp is between 20 F - 95 F
connect scan tool, then start and drive for 15 minutes.
keep speed between 50 - 70 mph, keeping a steady pedal foot, for 1 minute.
stop, leave engine idling
repeat, from start and drive.
check for EVAP ready to test with scan tool.

Re: 96 Civic Emissions/Drive Cycle
theyre like $20 - 50 on amazon. especially if you have a computer with a bluetooth, you can bluetooth into the adapter so theres no screen on the adapter itself. suuuper cheap...

OBD II, that's it. Any OBDII compliant machine will be able to read any codes , and report on whether the Monitors are ready.
It's probably easier to get one that has a screen, then you don't have to fiddle with the computer part. AFAIK, except in California, you can get Advance Auto, Oreillys, to scan it for you for free.

Re: 96 Civic Emissions/Drive Cycle
catalyst and o2.
both tests: outside 20 f - 95 f.
warm engine, hold at 3000 until radiator fan on.
catalyst: drive 10 minutes on hghway, in high gear drive at 50 - 60 mph for 30 secs, close gas pedal 1-2 secs, then repeat 30s, close, FOUR times
check for ready.
o2: idle 5 secs, in high gear drive steady speed 50 - 62 mph for 2 mins
in high gear, close gas and decel for 5 secs, gas closed.
check ready
