96 civic dx problems
alright i drive a 96 dx civic hatch with a ex swap and it needs some work. first of all the brakes are squeaking. what causes this and how do i fix it. second when i move the steering column it creeks? don't know what that is about. third it sounds like i might have a bearing or something going bad in the engine. it is a sound that is not really like the valves clicking or anything. anybody have any ideas?

Well twith th esqueaky breaks you may need to change them or simply clean them really good. Go get some break dust cleaner and that it apart see if that helps. While you have it apart also measure the thickness of your rotors see if the are good or need to be turned. And dont forget to check the pads. Hope this might help a little.

for the brakes:
- what type of compounds are you using? (i have hawk hp+ on mine... they squeak once in a while)... if they are aggressive you could try getting some brake compound put on the back of your pads (this helped with my set-up)
- what condition are your rotors in? if they are chewed this may also be a part of the problem...
- like previous posts... give'em a thorough cleaning and go from there....
good luck!
*edit* the brake compound is a kind of gel(?) (kinda like a grease) that helps to reduce vibration on certain frequencies that cause the squealing ... you should be able to pick some up at a local automotive supply store for not too much $$
