Default 96 Civic - do I have a vtec head?

I bought my 96 civic lx it has a y7 in it but I don't think the head is a y7 I think the guy before put a y8 head on it cuz there's the spot to mount the vtec sylanoid and I have a spare y7 head that dosent have that so do I have a vtec head? Or do some y7 have that mount

Aside from pictures, there should be a stamp code above the exhaust ports. Go check it out, post up what it says.

PS In the future your thread title should be specific and reflect the actual topic and not say "help please."

Um what? It has a spot to mount it? If it's a Y8 it already has a VTEC solenoid on it.

The motor is a y7 but the head isn't from a y7 it doesn't have the right head code for a y7 that's why I'm asking and no there's not a solenoid on it but on the back left side of the head there's two screw holes there and it looks and is in the same spot the solenoid should be

Picture. Makes absolutely no sense to install a Y8 and remove the solenoid. And with a cursory search I find nothing about a P2A-1 head.

I really thought technology was supposed to make things easier. Gety an online photo hosting account, upload the photo there and then link to it.

Is the car not running correctly? Is there any reason you're bent on changing the head? Is it just annoying you that the head isn't what you want it to be.

Double check the stampings on teh head please.

Don't waste your time swapping heads. You'll still be slower than a mini-van.

That's funny d series can be just as fast as a b series and I highly doubt it I just picked up a z6 head port and polished with a racing cam and chipped and tuned ecu for 150 bucks plus my other parts I have I'm sure I'll beat a mini van

I doubt that's what he's calling BS on. Just get the picture(s) so we can help you with the original topic.

Just to be clear, these two screw holes you say that you are looking at are located on the back side of the head itself and not on the intake manifold?

Dumb headswaps, I don't care what is in the head, will not make you that much faster. And slapping on a built head and stock bottom is kind of stupid.

Trust me. I've collected a bunch of dynos on all engine D-series builds and they are a waste of time and money.

Still waiting on that pic. Should have been up by now.

This, my old voyager minivan with the V6 was faster than any NA d series Honda.

If you can not figure out how to post a photo on a web forum please don't mess with working on an engine.

Welcome back grumble.

Not going to argue this.

Now can we get one of the stamp so we can identify the head properly?

Again, one with the stamping please.

Nevermind. Don't understand the need to identify this head if it's running fine and you plan on swapping it out in the future.
