96 Civic bogs down during acceleration with 1st and 2nd gear
Okay time to learn something new...please teach me.
I have a manual 96 Civic (d16y8) with new components; timing belt, distributor cap, rotor, and wires and spark plugs, fuel filter and cleaned Idle Air Control Valve.
When the car is cold or warm I get a delay in acceleration. For instance, in first gear I press the gas. The car gets going but then I lose momentum or acceleration. So while still in first, I press the gas pedal more, but nothing happens. Soon enough, like a three second delay, the car accelerates again while still in first. It tries to catch up to the degree which the pedal is depressed.
I cleaned the IACV, but the car still idles shitty. In fact there are times the car shudders and idle dips very low. Changing components above did not help my problem.
I was told to first check the vacuum lines. My question, I can find documentation how to check vacuumn lines easier than how Helms explains it? I tried helms and internet. Can my problem be a vacuum leak or possible IACV needs replacement? I have dealing with this for a year now and the problem is getting worse, but I am learning alot about cars in the process.
Thank you...good Karma to you.

Re: 96 Civic bogs down during acceleration with 1st and 2nd gear (arielb1)
My car was acting up like that earlier. It would want to stall even when I'm idling and I'd have to rev up to 3000rpm before i let out the clutch in 1st gear. Acceleration was pretty much not there. I took it in and the garage said that one of my fuel injectors was "sticky" and it would sometimes actually get stuck! So it was like I was only running with 3 cylinders! They suggested a cleaning or even replacement of my fuel injectors (~$500!!). However, a quick fuel injector cleaning and I was back on the road. Hope that helps!

Re: 96 Civic bogs down during acceleration with 1st and 2nd gear (Budget EJ)
How many miles did you have on the car? I only have 88K miles. You know, I was think this as a posible scenario. I tried this already with multiple fuel injector cleaners. It did not help. I tried the expensive fuel injector cleaners for a month at least 4 gas tank fulls. My brother had his fuel injectors cleaned professionally. He took off his injectors and mailed them to an internet home based business. The guy cleaned each injector for $15 a piece. When he installed them, he said it made a huge difference. Maybe I will do the same. Heck, it would be a good excersice for me. Now I have to figure out how to remove my fuel injectors.
Anyone else have other ideas other than fuel injector cleaning?

Yeah, my car has only 69K miles and it had that problem. I hear those fuel injector cleaners in the gas tank are only for maintenance.....but a direct cleaning (higher concentration) is what might help the most. Good luck!
