96 Civic 5 speed - not able to put it in gear
I bought a 1996 Honda Civic. After I had it a week the problem of not being able to put it in gear showed up. This is probably a reason it was sold. What is causing this?

Re: 96 5 speed?
be more specific there can be a TON of reasons... is there pressure in the clutch pedal? the week that it was driveable, any symptoms? you need to be less vague to get any help!

Re: 96 5 speed?
Sorry about the detail part. New to this. It is a 5-speed manual transmission. I can still drive the car. It has 127,000 miles on it. The problem started out of the blue. I have read a few comments about a hydraulic clutch. Is this somesthing to pursue?

Re: 96 5 speed?
It is a 1996 Honda Civic with a 5 speed manual transmission. It has recently become difficult to put the car in gear. When I start the car and try to go in reverse you can hear the gears grind. The clutch does not have much pressure when you depress the pedal. I blead the slave cylinder on the side of the transmission but not much has changed. I blead the clutch with the car running and not running. I do not have a manual on this car. The gears do not slip that I notice it just seems like it does not allow gear change.

Is there a sign to tell which one or do you replace both at the sme time? What is a good manual to get for this car.

Sure enough it has a leak under the dash coming from under the boot. I does not appear to have been leaking much, but it has at least got a leak. It looks like this has been changed before. The slave does not look like it has been changed.

Re: 96 5 speed?
You should put it in a forward gear then reverse, doesn't really matter which gear, any forward gear will do, or pause after depressing the clutch before trying to shift into reverse.

Done. Changed the clutch master and slave cylinder. Car shifts great. Getting the cotter pin out of the clutch peddle was probably the hardest part.
