Default 96-98 civic head unit install w/ keyless entry

I know this should be posted in the audio security section, which it is. But I feel that people with the greater knowledge of EK civics read these posts..........

I have a 97 ex coupe with keyless entry. I have found out that the wiring for that is run through the radio. So one way or another I have to keep the factory head unit in the car in order to still use the keyless remote? Where can I buy the proper wiring harness for this? Also I was thinking of keeping the stock unit where it is, and putting my aftermarket one in the spacer down by the cup holder. Is this a possibility? Has anyone else done it? Could you show me a pic? I would like to keep the install as simple as possible and keep the keyless entry. Why did honda decide to do this? So if someone stole the radio your keyless entry wouldn't work?

Thank you,
Ross Philips

to keep the keyless entry you well need to keep the stock deck, but the location is another matter! you can either leave the stereo in its stock place and install the aftermarket unit in the hole of the center console in front of the cup holders(you'll have to make a bracket for it to fit and some abs plastic to cover up all the gaps). or you can just zip tie your stock radio some where behind the stock location and put the new in the stock location. you well need a harness for this, just go to circuit city and talk to an installer and ask them for the harness that lets u keep the stock one or you can just test the wires and wire it up

your right for the 00 but 96-98 is different, the keyless entry is attatched to the car stereo
