You heard wrong!
It's a totally different piece. The only way a 99-00 Si grill will "bolt" on is if you have the 99-00 Si
front bumpers
front fenders
hood
headlights
and bumper support

put it this way, if you like the 99 Si grill, you'll just have to buy the fenders, hood, headlights, and bumper to go along with it. that is one expensive grill!

i don't see why it wouldn't work out....i have a 97 Ek with a 2000 Si front lip...maybe just alittle bit of modification will help

They are different. I ended up making one (Home Depot style) instead for my girlfriend's EK.
