96 to 98 civic cd player install help
I picked up a cheapy dual cd player, scosche harness from wal mart and matched all the wires up and. The cd player isn't working. I am aware of the domelight keyless entry issue with stock unit. I didn't have the illuminate and dimmer orange wires hooked up. I then hooked up battery to illuminate and that was fail. Do I tie in the red with the yellows or anything crazy like that? I figured it was straight forward but seems not to be.

Decks are very straight forward to install. Infact, they are literaly a cake walk.
Are you sure you have the constant and switch hooked up to the correct wire for the HU?
Due you have the diagram for the deck?
Also, if that doesn't fix it, check the fuse on the back of the HU, if that still doesn't solve the issue, return the HU. it's not uncommon from those cheapy HU's to be DOA

red-ignition red ignition
yel-battery yellow battery
black-chassis ground black-ground
dark blue-remote turn on blue-remote
the rest are speaker connections which all match up.
UNUSED on scosche harness- Orange Illumintation/dash ligh
Orange/White Dimmer
10a fuse is good.
Most likely I have a bad HU then if my stock radio works fine?

Yes, if all of the wires are in their correct postion and the stock radio works fine, that would be my first guess.
I highly reccomend returning it. Head over to cartoys or something and take a look at a basic alpine deck. They can be had for pretty cheap. Around 100-200 unless you want to step up.

Re: 96 to 98 civic cd player install help
Hey thanks for your help but it was operator error. I was trying to plug it in, in the dark and I put the clips upside down and then i flipped them and the clips plugged in as normal. I noticed 2 prongs were bent which might have been fromt he initial plug in attempt. Everything fixed and good to go. Thanks buddy.

Re: 96 to 98 civic cd player install help
Drove today and the cd player kicked on and off volume wise but the display and cd played as normal. My car has the keyless entry hackjob wiring, im guessing my connections for speakers could be better or one of the loose wires is potentially grounding out on the hack job? Speakers will play, stop, then sometimes sound muffled. Definitly gonna recheck everything tomorrow

As long as the colors match and you crimped them together correctly I would say go get a sony cd player there like 80 to 90 bucks at Best buy

When you re check everything, manily the connections, make sure there aren't any little hairs sticking out.
I had this issue when I installed the stereo in my car. The amps would not shut off, due to a little peice of the wire sticking out.
