96-98 air cond console/centre console - how to remove?

hi guys, i'm new to this forum. i'm from malaysia (probably most of u haven't even heard of this country). anyway, i drive a EJ8 4 door.. with a b16a2 motor swap.

i've searched the forums but all i get are... conversion from the 96-98 to the 2000 version climate control. those includes the removal of the dashboard.

my question is, just removing the aircond/clock/centre console on a 98 EJ8. perhaps im blind or a noob, but i dont see any screws around, perhaps its hidden. reason being, when i go over bumpy roads, there's something coming from inside there that's vibrating and bouncing around.... annoying as hell.

anyone can help? pictures would be awesome.. thanks! http://is.rely.net/1-92-29998-l-1gbM...AmVuBW3hGg.gif

I know this probally isn't the best answer but yaknow whatever. It is insane to get this out you have to oprn the glove box remove to screws, it is easier to do if you push the walls of the glove box in and the it folds down. then remove the plastic surounding the shifter like four screws. Then under the stearing wheel theres the plastic panel you need to remove I think five screws, then after that you can remove plastic panel where the cigrete lighter is i think four screw then the plug behind it. Now finaly you can look up underneath the climate control(witch is what your trying to remove) and remove the screws from that metal frame and theres ya go. Its not really hard just takes time. Hopefully I did not confuse you to much https://honda-tech.com/zeroavatar/192549 ? Good luck!

sounds like soemthing i can do. so lemme get this straight.

1. remove glove compartment, screw are in there.
2. remove gear console
3. remove the panel under the steering wheel as well to reach the cigarette lighter panel.
4. remove cigarette lighter panel - and i can see the screw for that aircond panel.

did i get it right? http://is.rely.net/1-92-65076-l-NREc...mLFY3DaZnA.gif

i pretty much reach the part where i'm just staring at multiple screws, not knowing which are the ones that are holding the aircond/centre console.... but at least i know how to get there now... until i grow bigger balls or someone gives me a more detailed explanation abt which screws it is, i shall not proceed anymore.

i managed to remove the 2 screws which is bolted right above the cigarette panel (which is for the centre console, bottom part)... however, i'm sure there is another 2 holding the upper part.. just no idea which is it.

after doing countless radio installs including my own ej8 let me give you step by step instructions.....

1. open glove box and on the top left side there is a screw thats gold that needs to be taken out. if you look at the bottom left there is a 10mm bolt that also needs to come out.

2. there are of course two screws above the 12v plug (not really a cigarette lighter) that also come out.

3. take out the panel under the steering wheel. there will be 3 screws holding that panel in. Then you will find about 2 or 3 more screws that hold the 12v panel in. take those out and you should be able to take that panel out.

4. Unplug the 12v plug and you can see everything that runs up to the climate control/ radio......\

5. to put back together do the reverse of these directions.

good luck........to take it a step further if you dont have an aftermarket radio then the factory radio is being held in by 2 8mm screws and once you loosen these up push the radio out from the back and there's your radio dash dissasembley for 96-98 civic...... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

civicpride97: i pretty did till where u mentioned, i only failed because i did not know which scared were the one holding the centre console..

also u mention the 12v panel is the one with the cigarette light/ashray right? i manage to get that out as well. only didn't know which was the bolts/screw that were holding the upper part (air cond blower area) of the centre console, too many screws.. i got confused.
