96-97 civic ecu different from 98?
I have a 96 civic ex but it has a p2p and the car starts up fine but has the check engine light and I need to go smog it.I tried adding my bro and sister boyfriend ecu but the car wouldn't start with it. They both have 98 civic with p2e-L32 and my civic has 97 d16y7.Anybody ever experience this with there car?Do you specifically have to get a 97 p2e?

96-98 ECU's should be the same between model's (ie: DX's, EX's).
You said you have a 96 ex with a p2p (which is an EX ECU), but a 97 D16Y7 engine? Did you get a new engine?
The P2E ECU is for the DX's and LX's (the D16Y7's), but I don't know what the L32 is.
What's the CEL that the p2p ECU throws?

It does have a different engine cause that is how I got it but it keeps on throwing out code 22 vtec oil pressure sensor but I dont have anything to a vtec solenoid because It is a dx motor. It turns off whenever you connect a dx ecu but starts with the ex ecu.
