Default 96-00 tail lights in 92 civic

does anyone know this for certian, i'm pretty sure they are but i wanted to check. the tail lights in a 96-00 coupe are the same as the ones in a 92-95 coupe or sedan right? I was thinking about changing my tail lights just because i'm tired of my same old look, but i didn't want anything ricer, the tail lights from an ex or si 6th gen coupe look pretty cool and i thought they looked like they'd fit mine.

red/clears on EGs is not new, but you have to be careful which ones you buy.
the ones that are completely clear on the top and redish on the bottom tend to leak and not fit right.

I lvoe the set I have, OEM fit and I've never had a problem. (notice the red ring around the blinker area, like the OEM set)

As everyone else has said, they won't fit. The sixth gen ones appear to be larger and are probably longer, not to mention the inside angles, etc. It doesn't make sense that the entire body of a car would change but they wouldn't redesign the taillights even a little bit.

Also, the lights in your photo are the same for all 1999-2000 Civic coupes in the US. It's not just for the EX and Si. All 1999-2000 Civic coupes (DX, EX, HX, Si) have them. The red/white/amber ones were on all coupes from 1996-1998 (DX, EX, HX).

I've had them for 6+ years, I don't remember where I got them. (most likely ebay)

a conversion just for tail lights? probably not! take that money into motor work or something. Or, sell your car and get a 99-00

i don't like the 99-00. I like the 5th gens. nifty door handles and all. I'm not big on the motor work. I am going to turbo it, but i'm less worried about that. oh well, maybe i'll just stick with what i got, those probably wouldn't look too good against the white anyway.

BUMP

Does anyone have photos of this conversion done? There's a kid who doesn't believe they don't fit and I want to show him how different the '96-'00 coupe taillights would look on the '92-'95 hatch body compared to the size of their stock taillights.

I got a set of 96-00 lights set from an Ebay seller, though I ordered 92-95 lights. So I tried to put it on my EG sedan, as i remember the inner design angles were large and couldn't accomodate in the EG tail light slot, but I think with few cuts and mods, mayb it could be fitted.

Anyway I ended up ordering another pair for my car, than hacking the 96-00 set, so yeah I have a spare light set, should sell it here soon

The 92-95 Civic tails is totally different dimensions from 96-00 Coupe, civic, hatch...

Civic 92-95 Tailights

Civic 99-00 Coupe

You can clearly see that, the 99-00 Coupe is more squarish and bigger than the 92-95 tail lights.

This thread is old. I know the lights don't just fit on. I know they have to be molded in (Bondo and such). I have seen it done though and I want a photo of it to show someone that they're very much not the same shape.

Yeah, it did look bad. But saying that won't convince the guy I'm trying to prove this to.
