96-00 Civic EX Power Door Locks Problem: Only locks sometimes Driver Side
Before you think you can increase your postcount by 1 by saying: it's the safety locking mechanism so you don't lock your keys in your car - that is NOT what I'm talking about.
Setup:
Viper 690VX Alarm
EX Civic, OEM door locks, OEM radio
Problem:
Driver side door will lock/unlock about 5% of the time.
Intro:
Just today, getting out of my car, I noticed the driverside door lock unlocked. Normally it is always locked due to the Viper feature that locks the door when the keys are turned to the ON position. I thought to myself - that was strange and then turned on the alarm. The driverside door didn't lock! Weird...I manually locked it, alarmed the car and continued on my way.
Diagnosis:
Removing the door panels, the driverside lock attempts to lock, it appears there is not enough force generated to pushover the lock most of the time via the metal bars. I hooked up the OEM power door lock switch and proceeded to lock and unlock the door with this mechanism. The same results appeared. Most of the time, the metal bar moves, but it does not seem like enough force is being generated to pushover the lock. Finally, manual locking does not seem much more difficult than any other time prior to when the lock was working. Passenger side locks 100% of the time.
Other contributing factors:
It rained for 10 days here - damn you So Cal.
I have a feeling it could be the powerdoor lock motor, but I was informed that these rarely fail. And the rain could be a contributing factor, but in what way? Connections seem relatively dry, and the metal bar moves, so would the motor still respond regardless of a short?
Thanks for reading.

wire connector going to the door lock motor was dirty and wet. cleaned and fixed.
if you're having similar problems, i'd get the connectors. also, if you dont' have an aftermarket alarm, it could be the actuators.

Holy ****...I'm in So Cali too and my power doors locks started to act weird after the rain. I also have a viper alarm. Thanks for the info. I will try it. Hopefully it will work.
