Default 95 Ej1 B18B1 Swap bogging/stutter problem..please help.

Ok..long story short:

I purchased this engine from a HT member here(of which i will keep name anonymous). no leaks or anything. Ive done new Honda Filter, new mobil1 oil, new MTF, new ngk plugs, has a brand new oem honda fuel filter, new bosch spark wires(i know but thats what they came from) and also a new cap and rotor i just installed.

The following is my problem:

For some reason sometimes when i drive it boggs or stutters what ever you want to call it. It doesnt do it always. Its a random thing...thats why its been hard to predict what it is. Atleast for me to. But its done it the past few days. Ive noticed it does it mainly while im in 1st 0r 2nd gear between 1k-3k. Its as if i hit a rev limiter. when this symptom occurs no matter how much throttle i give it, it goes nowhere. It'll just jerk and ****. And then all of a sudden run fine. Ive tried replicating the problem but cant. So any help or suggestions from you guys would be helpful.

Side note: this never happened with my D engine that was in my bay before. So i doubt its the fuel pump...but who knows.

Thanx in advance for any help or suggestions that are given : thumbup:

I've had a similar problem with my B20B a while back. It turned out it was my ignition coil was starting to go bad.

The stutter/bog is intermittent, a vacuum leak is almost always a constant event causing a constant effect. Could be the cause but I doubt it.

Mort: No CEL right? I also agree with the guy above, a weak coil can cause problems like this and they are extremely easy to test. All you need is an Ohmmeter or a multimeter and a decent manual, even a cheap Hayne's has the procedure outlined and also has the service limit specs.

Also what about the 02 sensor? New/old? A failing 02 sensor can cause some funky running issues and often will not set off the CEL until it's completely dead.

Yeah i figured the vacuum isea was off due to my car idling perfectly and not being a constant bog. I do have a multimeter. I might look into checking the coil. Are all the HONDA coils the same? Cuz i have a extra known good one laying around..LoL. As far as the O2 its the same old one. I dont know if its the one from the b18 engine or the one i had in my D. Since i didnt do the swap. The HT member BEANEG6 swapped it in for me.

** Side not i just remembered i have a haynes manual but its for a D16..not B18. Is it the same specs? As far as Ignition Coil? And yeah NO CEL.

Are you using the same ecu or chip? Sometimes a poorly set up full-throttle launch in Crome will do this. Otherwise it could be the crank sensor inside the distributor. That will put it in limp mode, however it usually pops a CEL when that happens.

What else did you change during the swap? Harness, exhaust, o2, etc?

I'm pretty sure it's the coil.

Mine has been doing the same thing too. I've narrowed out distributor, fuel pump and filter, new o2, MAP sensor seems to be doing it's job. I'll get a code every once in a blue moon when this happens, I think I remember code 43.
When mine does it it seems like a rich studder cause I can smell fuel, if I kill the key off and on it'll stop for an unknown amount of time. Usually only while around city speeds, don't have much problem on the highway. Fuel filter and pump have been changed, hooked the car up to a fuel injection cleaner machine, changed distributor (for other reasons but this problem persisted then too). The only thing I haven't done yet is break out the oscilliscope and check my spark, TPS etc.
It's a b17a1 with a p72 ECU, not sure if the ECU has been messed with I'm going to check tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated. Currently no constant CEL, only when it decides to come on when this is happening. Also, I noticed my mileage seems to drop significantly when this is going on so that's why I think it's a rich problem.
