Ok so here's what happened first..

Ok, here's the whole story. Started a month ago, was running low on gas, pulled up to a stop sign and my at jus died.. Started right back up, but suddenly I had the hesitation problem.. Limped home, checked the cel, said TPS, replaced that, no change but now I had throttle surge, so I unplugged the TPS, thought maybe bad gas.. Filled up on gas. Still nothing. Checked my plugs covered in oil. Replaced valve cover still nothing. Tore head apart and replaced head gasket.. Now I had no compression.. Tore it back apart and lapped in all the valves, and cleaned everything with a tooth brush! Put it back together today, plugged in the TPS, cranked her over and she fired up after a little bit. Still had idle surge so I unplugged the TPS and idle surge went away. Took it or a quick spin and I only have acceleration when I push the pedal 1/3 of the way down.. It doesn't matter how far I push it after that, no acceleration. And hen I'm engine braking I've got mad backfire at higher rpm...

Then this..

I tinkered with the TPS, loosened a screw and tapped on it while it wa runnin, it cleared up a lot! I'll get a volt meter tomorrow an test the voltage, hopefully that's it! I noticed that its backfiring a little still, possibly bad timing still..?

Then this haha..

SO... Now no matter how much i turn the tps back and forth to both extremes, it doesn't take care of the idle surge. however... in gear and under load, there is no surge, and while engine breaking there is no surge, its that inbetween/engaging stage that it surges and drops. also my speedometer i noticed just dropped to 0 when i was going 60 and then went right back up.. But the speedo is probably just the vss..

I can start up the car and it'll idle surge with no CEL.. Sometimes it takes 5 seconds or 5 minutes and the check engine light will come on for the TPS (I checked th code) and the surge will go away along with the Inguaging problem. Other times it never goes away.. This is really stumping me, and I have no clue what it could be. I appreciate any bit of info. Thanks in advance, Sean.

Plugs covered in oil concerns me. Did you do a compression check again, also a wet one, could be bad rings.

I did the valve cover gasket and that cleaned it right up. The problem is the weird idle surge that disappears for no reason.. I noticed tho that when the check engine light comes on and it goes away.. It doesn't come back until I restart the car... Thanks for the advice! And the rings are old, it burns some oil..

Possibly? The previous owner has te p28 obd1 vtec harness and it's a d15b7 non vtec motor, some wires aren't plugged in, possible problem? I was watching some videos on YouTube and a guy said that if your throttle cable is too tight and causes the throttle to stay open, the TPS can't read that you're at idle and will cause problems.. He didn't say what problems, but coul that be a factor?

Now my viper alarm is freaking out and won't let me start the car... Went and got gas, then nothing, ended up unplugging the negative battery cable to reset it over and over again, and pushed the unlock button while the key was on the ON position and got it started. Drive it home and tried to start it agin. Same thing, and I gave up tryin. Amy help on how to get rid of this **** too?! Please and thank you.

Can't help you on the alarm buy weren't you supposed to put a voltmeter to the TPS by now?

Right you are. I was going to, but it cleared up for like a day or two and I forgot.. I'll try that out later today!!

So I went to do a voltage read and I couldn't get anything.. So I unplugged the TPS and no more throttle surge and no more weird Inguaging period. So I'll jus role with this until I come to something else! Haha and I kind of figured out the alarm system..

You're not going to get much, if any, help on an unknown alarm system. Start a thread in Audio and Security.

Thanks! I actually just found the alarm system box and I'm starting to take it out tomorrow and this weekend! Hopefully I'll get it fixed!

So the idle surge is gone.. I unplugged the TPS along with taking out the viper alarm system.. But everyonce and awhile I'll go to start and it'll jus click once and not let me turn over or anything.. I have to disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset? It and try again...
