Default 95 DX mini me swap problems

Ok, im did this swap for my buddy. Got everything back together an it wont fire up. I cant figure anythign out so if anyone has some pointers or suggestions im all ears. I put a z6 head on it, an swapped in a p28 an wired vtec up an everything. Did the timing/water pump/tensioner ect. Im gettin gas and spark, but yet it doestn fire up. COuld i have messed the timing up. Had the marks lined up, did the straw in the spark plug trick to kinda double check the engine was at TDC. Anyone have any ideas?? After cranking a few times an pulling the plugs their dark black an a few smell of gas.

Maybe your distributor is 180 degree off. When your motor is at TDC, the rotor in the distributor should be at cylinder #1. Take the distributor cap off and turn the motor back to tdc and check to see of the distributor rotor is on cylinder #1. Happen to me once.

Here is two picture that I'm taking about. I got these picture for d-series.org. Hopefully he doesn't mind me using his pictures. (IM me if you want them down.)

Here is the picture that show you cylinder #1, #2, #3, and #4.

And here is firing order with the distributor cap off. Notice the rotor on the picture. It is suppose to be on cylinder #1 when the motor is at TDC.
