Default 95 dx cant get timing past 10 btdc

Hi I just bought a 95 dx coupe and noticed once it warms up the throttle responce just seems laggy. Well I relized it had a blown headgasket so I replaced it. Then I noticed the dizzy was all the way advanced so I wanted to set it. When I went to set it with the dizzy all the way advanced I cant get any more then 10 degrees btdc. I know factory specs are 16 +-2. Well im thinking this is why it seems laggy too. Could putting the timing belt on a tooth off cause my ignition timing to do this? Or does anyone have any other ideas?

Check the mechanical timing as it is likely off by one tooth.

Thanks man. Im gonna re check it. I was just thinking if it was a tooth off it would be more drastically out of timing.
