95 DELSOL CRANK BUT NO START? Ignition//fuel??
I thought it would be the fuel pump but i went in today and took it out and tested it. Seems to be working fine but then what could it be?? It all started when I was at the light. Light goes green so I go... while shifting into 2nd car turns off. I recently changed the oil. Engine is a D16z6
A friend says it could be a spark problem but how do I check for spark? Also checked the distributor cap, seems clean. Could moving it around help any? Any help or link much appreciated. Thanks.

I had this exact same problem with my car, wasn't fuel it was spark.
The ignitor in my distributor went out. Swapped a new one in and was good to go again.
but that was after 3 days of troubleshooting.
good luck

You could have checked the fuel pump without having to take it out for the most part. Turn the key to slot II and if you hear the Fuel Pump prime then most likely it isn't the culprit.
Check for spark by taking out a spark plug, Snap it back into its spark plug boot and ground it on the engine or something metal and have a friend/family member turn the engine over..look for a spark to jump across the electrode on the spark plug. If not then its most likely your Ignition Coil located inside your distributor..go get another and replace it.

Yea this sounds more like the problem. I will check this asap. Also could it be the ECU? Main relay?? How do I troubleshoot these?? Thanks.

Yep, as mentioned by others, start by checking for spark and whether the fuel pump primes. By the way, spark at the tip of the plug should be bright white-bluish rather than weak orange.

you can check spark at the plugs by taking the plug wire off and stick a screwdriver in there now hold it close to the head or any other good ground and have someone turn the key....watch for the spark.....if they all spark, take the plugs out and see if any are fouled.....if no spark work your way back to the distributor.
good luck post back...

why even deal with pulling a spark plug when you can go to harbor freight and get one of these for $5.99

RIGHT ON THE MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I took the cap off the distributor and found it wasnt turning when i tried to start it so i was like this is baaaddd but then i was like... if its not turning that means the cam isnt either so i took the valve cover off and whattya know theres 2 pieces of timing belt barely hanging in there. I dont think it took anything with it so im hoping after i get it timed everything will be fine. Should I replace the water pump while im down there? Thanks.
I wanna thank everyone that responded. you guys ftw.

X2.
My bro was cruising to work on the freeway back a few years ago in his Civic(D16Z6). Was running 80mph when all the sudden he said he heard like a pop and the engine quit running. Turns out it was the timing belt. We put a new one on and it cranked and ran and hes probably put another 20-25k trouble free miles on it so you might get lucky.
So, install a new timing belt..if the engine is trashed with bent valves..get a new engine and take the new belt you just installed back off the trash engine and install it on the new one..that is if you go with the same engine.

Crank pulley is easy. IMPACT that little biatch right off. Infact I just did a timing belt on my bro's 95 ex over the weekend, let me know if you have any questions.

I use the crank holding tool and a breaker bar..works everytime.

I used a leg, extension with ratchet and someone holding a big screw driver in the flywheel teeth. Took a good grunt and a push with these fat thighs but i got it off. It was a BITCH though so good luck sir. My car shut down the other day too, its not getting any spark either, but the crank and cam are turning over so Im more on the lines of cap/rotor, coil, or the ignitor.

The easiest way to get the crank pulley bolt off if you don't have an impact wrench is to go to a shop with one and have them crack the bolt off for you. Then let them put it back on tight enough to get you home....then work your magic.
But since you are already dead in the water get a buddy and have him pump the brakes and then stand on them while the transmission is in gear and then give the bolt a good tug. Make certain you are turning the right direction too. Our engines are reverse or anti clockwise. So, when you remove the bolt you need to be going clockwise.
