95 Del Sol JDM D15B No crank no start problem
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 95 Del Sol that broke down on them at their work so they finally gave up on the car and sold it to me and then I towed it home. I immediately assumed the obvious, bad battery or starter. I charged and tested the battery and it is definitely good, I tracked down the thermostat ground(which was corroded so I removed it and cleaned it all down good), also tracked the tranny ground and it looked good and tested good on a voltmeter. So I assumed it must be the starter and wired a cable from the positive on the starter and tapped it directly against the positive battery terminal, boom engine fires right up no problems. So I have a good battery, good starter, but nothing happens when you turn the key besides a single click from what sounds like the fuse box in the top corner of the engine bay. This clicking sound occurs whether or not I have my foot on the clutch, whenever I turn the key. The previous owner also had a poorly bypassed clutch safety switch which I re-plugged in, at which point the car started with the key! Twice. And never since. I am very stumped at this point and would appreciate any additional pointers or leads on what could be causing this. I also have pulled and checked just about every fuse I could find on the car. I would also like to add that immediately after the car started with the key and I re-attempted to start it again, I heard some nasty metallic grinding noise that was definitely coming from either the ignition switch or under the dash. They bypassed the clutch switch for a reason, i would bypass the switch again and then you have the switch as the culprit

I thought I would update everyone that I found it was nothing more than the two bolts on the wiring side of the ignition switch becoming loose. Tightening them up made the car fire right up with the keys.
