Default 95 del sol exhaust help

I have a 95 del sol s. Today i went to the local exhaust shop and had them put on 2.25" pipe from the header flange back to a V-power muffler. (no cat). Then i took the car for a spin, and it was rediculous loud and raspy as hell. So i took it back to them and they welded in a 12" resonator. that made it better, but still really raspy and ricey past 2500rpm or so. I guess the question im trying to ask is, do i need a bigger resonator? do i need a different muffler style? the guy ordered me an Xcelerator muffler and said its quieter and should be much better. I would just prefer a high flow factory style muffler.

Another question that i had, was about the catalytic converter. Do i need one for back pressure or something? the guy told me that putting one in would reduce the exhaust flow, increasing back pressure. I've read that back pressure doesn't matter before in some articles on the net, but when i got on it after the exhaust installation, it felt like i had decreased power all the way up.

In conclusion, any suggestions or insight is appreciated.

Well, you do want a certain amount, however as long as you have a muffler you should be good. For the raspyness issue, thats mostly with the resonator (might get another added to it) and a different muffler will help. My vibrant 3" muffler (3" pipe from the turbo back) isnt loud at all because of its style yet its a straight flow design like a can, the ultimate sleeper exhaust

so right now it has a 12" resonator, if i doubled the size and went with a 24" one that should virtually eliminate the raspy sound? also, where is that 3" vibrant muffler available? might have to get that and give it a shot.

Its raspy because you no longer have a cat. A bigger resonator might help with the problem however.

my car sounded like yours for 2 years. got annoying. had a test pipe, no resonator, stock pipe diam. recently put on Tsudo cat-back exhaust, 2.5 piping, 2' resonator on it, and mated it to an OBX hi-flow cat. sounds great! deep and throaty and w/ the silencer you hear almost nothing. the bigger diameter also helps too
